On the Notifications screen, select Do Not Disturb from the left side menu (in case it is not already selected) and choose the Time Period during which you do not want to be disturbed by Update Notifications (See image below)

If you would like to permanently disable notifications, then make sure that the From time is always 1 minute ahead of the To time. As you can see in the image above, the from time of 7:01 AM is a minute ahead of the to time (7 AM).

However, you need to make sure that you remember to periodically check for Updates on the App Store and manually download the Updates, in case they are available.

Click on the Apple Logo located in the top menu bar of your Mac and then click on App Store in the drop down menu. On the next screen, click on the Updates tab and wait for your Mac to search for Updates.

In case an Update is available, Install the Update on your Mac by clicking on the Update button located next to the listed Update. In case of multiple updates, you can click on Update All button to Install all the available Updates on your Mac.

It is true that Mac update notifications are there to remind you to keep your Mac operating system up to date, but that does not mean they have to be very annoying. Not that it’s wrong to receive these update notifications every day. It is just that there are days when we feel like updates are not yet necessary.   3. Turn on Do Not Disturb mode.

Take note though, this mode will automatically turn off the following day. Therefore, you have to enable it again manually.

II. Enabling Do Not Disturb Mode Every Day

It can be tiring to repeat the process of enabling Do Not Disturb mode every day. So, automate the process by deciding and selecting a time to activate it on a daily basis.

Here’s how you do it.

  1. Go to the Notifications Center.
  2. Under “Turn on Do Not Disturb”, tick the “From” box and set the times when you like the DND mode enabled.

Depending on the time period you’ve set, the DND mode should automatically turn on, hiding any sorts of update notifications.

III. Disabling Notifications Permanently

If you prefer not to be bothered by any of these update notifications, choose to disable them permanently.

  1. Go to System Preferences -> App Store.
  2. Uncheck “Automatically Check for Updates”.

After disabling the notifications permanently, you will have to manually go to Mac App Store to check for updates.
